Chelsea have decided against making a formal offer for Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye, according to Daily Mail columnist Simon Jones.

The Ghanaian international had worked under Antonio Conte at Juventus, and the Italian reportedly asked the Blues’ scouting team to watch the 24 year old in action earlier this season.

Boakye did little to quell the speculation when he stated he would like to work with the Chelsea manager once again in the future.

The forward has scored 23 goals in all competitions this season, but he was only one of a number of targets that the Blues have been looking at to strengthen up front.

West Ham striker Andy Carroll now looks to be the firm favourite to make the move to Stamford Bridge. Sky Sports News have reported that Chelsea have enquired about signing the 29 year old on a permanent basis. Initial reports had suggested that the Blues were only interested in a short term loan deal.
