Chelsea are considering making a surprise move for Hull City’s veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor, according to Chelseanews.ru.
The Russian website’s editor Lors Amachiev claims the Blues are looking for a new third choice goalkeeper to replace Eduardo, who is set to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
McGregor is now 35 years of age, having spent 11 years with Rangers before moving to Besiktas in 2012. After a year in Turkey, he returned to the UK to play for Hull. The Scottish international lost his place to Eldin Jakupovic last season and was loaned out to Cardiff City.
The stopper has recovered his first team place with the Championship club this campaign following Jakupovic’s departure to Leicester City. However, he is out of contract at the end of the season, and could join Chelsea on a free transfer.
Chelseanews.ru say that the deal to sign McGregor could cost the Blues £2m, but that’s likely to be the cost of a year’s wages, which would work out roughly at £38,000 a week.
