Chelsea are tracking Barcelona attacking midfielder Denis Suarez, according to the Daily Star.

The Blues are seeking a replacement for Michy Batshuayi who could leave on loan this month, but speaking on The Transfer Window podcast, journalist Ian McGarry believes they may not pursue an out and out forward with Suarez a possible candidate.

The Spanish attacking midfielder is reportedly available for transfer with playing time limited after Philippe Coutinho’s arrival from Liverpool.

This season, Suarez has played 17 times, scoring three goals and providing six assists. He has generally played on the left wing, with some appearances in central midfield.

Considering Chelsea have already bought Ross Barkley for £15m from Everton this January, it seems highly unlikely they will look to sign another offensive midfielder.

The Guardian suggest a more likely alternative will be Andy Carroll.  The Blues are considering offering a six month loan deal for the 29 year old, before looking for a longer term solution in the summer.
