Chelsea are battling Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain for Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, according to the Sun journalist Warren Haughton.

The Blues were previously linked with the Ivorian international in December, but it seems they are looking to step up their interest in the playmaker.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to strengthen the centre of midfield following Tiemoue Bakayoko’s disappointing start to life at Stamford Bridge.

Seri was the key architect in Nice’s qualification for the Champions League last season with the French club finishing third in Ligue One. His performances led to interest from the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona.

Barca were reportedly very close to signing the 26 year old in the summer, but pulled out of the deal to sign former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho instead.

Seri is said to be still keen on a move away from Nice. He has a £35million release clause, which will no doubt attract potential buyers. The Sun also say he would prefer a move to the Premier League, making Chelsea and City the leading candidates to sign the midfielder.
