Chelsea have “first refusal” on signing Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Monchengladbach, according to Sport Bild.
The Blues sold Eden’s younger brother to Gladbach on a permanent basis for £7.2m in July 2015, following a season long loan at the German club. As part of the sale, it seems Chelsea wanted to make sure they had the opportunity to re-sign the Belgian at a later date.
Hazard’s performances this season in the Bundesliga have been good with seven goals and seven assists in 20 games, and reports in recent days have suggested that the Blues could make a move for the 24 year old.
The first refusal option could prove very useful to Chelsea. It means if another club makes an offer for the Belgian international, Gladbach will have to accept a similar bid from the Blues.
The midfielder has however commented that he is still happy in Germany, and is focused on qualifying for a European competition with Gladbach this season.
