Chelsea have “asked” about signing Roma striker Edin Dzeko, according to Premium Sport.

The Blues have been in negotiations with the Giallorossi over left back Emerson Palmieri, but they also reportedly used the opportunity to enquire about the Bosnian international.

Roma’s sporting director Monchi is believed to have rejected Chelsea’s approach for Dzeko, but Premium Sport say the London club are likely to return for the former City forward later in the window.

The striker is a key player for manager Eusebio Di Francesco, but Roma are under pressure to sell to keep within UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Their preference would be sell Palmieri, as well as midfielder Kevin Strootman, but they may also have to consider proposals for Dzeko.

Chelsea are keen on signing a target man during the January transfer window, and while West Ham’s Andy Carroll has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, the Hammers’ £20m valuation of the 29 year old remains problematic.
