Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed the Bundesliga club are close to tying up a loan deal for Chelsea left back Baba Rahman.

The 23 year old spent the first half of last season on loan at the German side before a serious knee injury ended his spell with the team prematurely. Having now returned to full fitness, and ready for first team action, Schalke are keen to recruit the Ghanaian international this month.

Speaking to reporters about the progress in negotiations with Chelsea for Rahman, Heidel revealed there are only a few details that need to be sorted out for the loan to go ahead. He was quoted by the Evening Standard as saying:

“We’re in talks with Chelsea regarding Baba Rahman. There are still one or two things to clear up on their end. We could agree on a deal with the player himself relatively quickly.”

The Ghanaian’s departure would leave the Blues short of cover at left back. Marcos Alonso is the club’s first choice left wing back, and it will leave only Kenedy able to deputise for the Spaniard in the position.

However, the Brazilian has also been backed to leave Stamford Bridge on loan in January, with it being reported that Newcastle have first refusal on signing the 21 year old.
