Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed that the Bundesliga club are holding discussions with Chelsea about re-signing full back Baba Rahman.
The Ghanaian international spent the first half of last season on loan at the German side before a knee injury sustained on international duty ended his campaign prematurely.
Rahman has been slowly returning to full fitness, and speaking to Kicker magazine (translated by the Daily Mail), Heidel says he was hopeful of signing the 23 year old on loan once again:
“Baba has now been fully training for two weeks. We are in talks with Chelsea and the doctors of both clubs are in exchange.”
The defender is also reportedly interesting the likes of Fiorentina, as well as Everton and Monaco. However, there is no guarantee that the left back will be sent out on loan this month.
The Daily Mail report that the Blues need cover for first choice left wing back Marcos Alonso, and Rahman is said to have impressed manager Antonio Conte with his displays in training since his return from injury.
The Ghanaian was signed from Augsburg for £18m back in August 2015 but he has managed just 21 appearances for the club since his arrival.
