AC Milan have entered the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Thorgan Hazard, according to Goal.com Italy.

The Rossoneri’s sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli was said to be in the stands watching Gladbach’s 2-1 defeat to FC Cologne on Sunday where the Belgian international played the full 90 minutes.

If Milan do follow up their reported interest with an offer for Hazard, Chelsea are likely to hear about it. German publication Sport Bild report that the Blues have first refusal on the player.

This means that if the Serie A side place a bid for the 24 year old playmaker, Gladbach are obliged to tell the Blues, and if the London club make an identical offer, they have to accept both bids or neither.

Hazard moved permanently from Chelsea to the Bundesliga in 2015 for €8m. This season he has been in excellent form for his club, having scored seven goals and provided seven assists in 21 appearances.
