Nottingham Forest are leading the race to sign Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter on loan, according to ESPN.

A number of Championship clubs are said to be pursuing the England Under 20 international, and it is believed that the Blues are willing to let the 20 year old leave on a temporary basis in the January transfer window.

Clarke-Salter actually featured briefly against Forest earlier this season. Antonio Conte sent him on as a substitute for the final 19 minutes of the 5-1 victory over the Championship side in the Carabao Cup back in September.

The centre back has however not featured for the first team since then, despite being named on the bench for the Blues’ victory over Everton in the Carabao Cup fourth round tie.

The England under 20 star has had to make do playing for the under 23 side in Premier League 2, while he was also selected for the EFL Trophy second round clash against MK Dons earlier this month. Clarke-Salter would likely benefit from a loan switch as he looks to build on a successful summer with England when he won the Under 20 World Cup.
