Real Madrid may choose to sign former Chelsea target Leonardo Bonucci ahead of David Luiz in the January transfer window, according to Sport.

The Italian international only signed for AC Milan from Juventus in the summer but has struggled, despite being named captain of the Rossoneri. It is suggested however that Real may consider making a move for the 30 year old as they look to strengthen their backline with injuries to key central defenders Raphael Varane and Jesus Vallejo.

There is a doubt over whether Bonucci would leave the San Siro, with the Italian likely to be determined to make a success of his move to Milan rather than leaving just six months into a five year deal.

With that being the case, the La Liga champions may then turn their attentions back to Luiz. The Brazilian international is currently out with a knee injury, and will miss tonight’s game against Atletico Madrid. The centre back has however fallen behind Andreas Christensen in manager Antonio Conte’s plans and reports in France last week suggested contact with Luiz had already been made by Real.
