Chelsea’s reported pursuit of Yannick Carrasco will have to wait until the the end of the season after Atletico Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League, according to El Gol Digital.

The Belgian international was reportedly a target for the Blues in the summer, with the 24 year old’s relationship with Atletico boss Diego Simeone having broken down.

Carrasco did however start this season well with Simeone selecting him to start in five of the first eight league games, scoring three goals and contributing two assists in the process. A knee injury in late October has however moved the player back down the pecking order once again.

El Gol are reporting that Atletico were looking to sell the winger in the January transfer window, but the loss of €30million in revenue for failing to reach the knockout round of the Champions League, means the La Liga side won’t have the funds to replace him.

Atletico are therefore considering selling the player in the summer instead, when the player could command a higher transfer fee.
