Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has hinted that the German club will seek to sign Chelsea left back Baba Rahman for a second time in the January transfer window.

Rahman joined the Bundesliga side on a season long loan at the start of last season, before a serious injury ended his time in Germany prematurely. Asked by Revier Sport about the possibility of the Ghanaian international returning, Heidel said:

“Is Baba ready to help us in the second half of the season? You have to see.”

Although not a clear admission of interest, the fact is the 23 year old is likely to be fit to play when the window reopens and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte may consider loaning out Rahman for the second half of the season in order to gain match fitness.

The defender sustained knee ligament damage playing for Ghana at the African Cup of Nations last January and has not played a single minute of first team football since then. Revier Sport suggest that the Ghanaian would be very willing to return to Schalke after keeping his apartment in Gelsenkirchen.
