Newcastle are the firm favourites to sign Chelsea left back Kenedy in January, after the Evening Standard reported that the Blues gave the Magpies first refusal on signing the Brazilian on loan.

The Daily Mail had said that Rafa Benitez’s side had ‘secured’ the signing of the 21 year old, but the normally reliable Standard journalist Simon Johnson believes that talks are not that advanced.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte does not want to be left short of cover at left wing back, and it seems Newcastle will only be able to loan Kenedy if the Blues can land another left back to provide competition for Marcos Alonso.

In recent weeks, Chelsea have been linked with a number of players who could play in the position. No doubt the favourite is Juventus’s Alex Sandro, but the club will face competition from the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.

Porto’s Alex Telles and Augsburg Philipp Max have also been scouted in case the club fail to land their primary target. Once a signing is made, only then will Chelsea allow Newcastle to loan Kenedy.
