RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi has signed a new four and a half year contract at the German club, effectively ending Chelsea’s pursuit of the Hungarian international.
ESPN reported back in late October that both the Blues and Arsenal were tracking the 27 year old, and had sent scouts to watch the keeper in action when Leipzig faced Bayern Munich in the tenth round of Bundesliga fixtures.
Gulacsi spent five years at Liverpool before departing the Reds in 2013. This campaign for Leipzig, he has already featured 24 times, but he has kept just four clean sheets and conceded 36 goals.
Chelsea’s pursuit of the Hungarian was likely to have been in anticipation of Willy Caballero leaving Stamford Bridge. The veteran Argentine only signed on a free transfer from Manchester City in the summer, but the 36 year old’s one year contract expires at the end of the season, and there is no certainty that the stopper will be offered a new one.
