Chelsea and Manchester City are interested in signing AC Milan captain Leonardo Bonucci, according to Goal.com.

The Italian international only signed for the Rossoneri back in July for €40m, but has struggled to replicate the form he showed at his previous club Juventus.

Blues manager Antonio Conte worked with Bonucci at Juve, and the defender has been a long term target for the Italian. City meanwhile are keen to strengthen their centre back options with John Stones sidelined for the long term and Vincent Kompany’s ongoing injury problems, forcing City boss Pep Guardiola into the January transfer market.

For their part, Milan are not considering selling their captain next month, but Goal.com say things could change very quickly. La Gazzetta Dello Sport have also reported on Bonucci’s situation. The player himself is reportedly content to stay at the San Siro, but the Italian international has started to have doubts over whether a move to the Rossoneri was the right idea.

Milan are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League this season which will mean two seasons where Bonucci has not played at the top level in Europe. He could therefore be tempted by offers from other clubs who could offer him European football once again.
