Chelsea look set to lose out on Roma wing back Alessandro Florenzi with the 26 year old poised to sign a new contract with the Giallorossi, reports TMW.
Blues manager Antonio Conte worked with the full back/winger/central midfielder when he was Italy head coach, but the club’s interest in the Italian international actually precedes Conte’s arrival with reports going all the way back to September 2015 when Jose Mourinho was still in change.
Chelsea were believed to be still tracking Florenzi until very recently due to the club’s lack of cover at right wing back. In his first season with the Blues, Conte successfully employed Victor Moses in the role, and subsequently signed Davide Zappacosta from Torino in the summer to strengthen the position, rather than the Roma star.
Still, the Italian international has been in excellent form this season, and it looks as though his club have decided to reward the wide man with a new deal, worth approximately €3million a season, plus bonuses.
