Athletic Bilbao striker Gorka Guruzeta looks set to stay at the Basque club with talks over a new contract said to be progressing well, according to AS.

The Sun reported last month that Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham were all monitoring the 21 year old, but AS say that the forward is happy to remain with Bilbao beyond the end of the season when his current deal expires.

Guruzeta is hopeful that he can break into the first team next season, and wants to stay in order to establish himself in the top flight of Spanish football.

The striker is however still playing for Bilbao’s B team in the third tier, having scored eight goals in 18 appearances this season. To make him better prepared for the step up to first team level, Bilbao are considering letting the player leave on loan during the January transfer window.

Second division side Real Oviedo would like Guruzeta as they are looking to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, with the club aiming to make the playoffs. Real Zaragoza meanwhile want the forward for next season as they seek to challenge for promotion, following a disappointing year which sees them mid table this campaign.
