Chelsea have emerged as front runners for Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, according to Calciomercato.com.
The Algerian international was the subject of three bids from Roma in the summer but the Serie A club failed to agree a fee for the 26 year old with Leicester, and it seems they will now face stiff competition from the Blues to sign the winger in January.
Mahrez’s form has been vastly improved this season, after failing to impress during most of the 2016/17 campaign. His four goals and five assists in 16 Premier League have helped the Foxes to eighth in the table as the season closes in on the half way mark.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has expressed his frustration at the lack of depth in his squad during recent weeks, but the area that the team remain weakest is up front, with a lack of options behind main striker Alvaro Morata.
In contrast, Mahrez’s natural position on the right side of a front three is well stocked with the likes of Willian, Pedro and Eden Hazard all capable of playing in the role.
