Chelsea are keeping their options open in their pursuit of a new left wing back with scouts watching Augsburg left back Philipp Max and Porto’s Alex Telles in case a move for Alex Sandro falls through, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues are believed to have sent representatives to watch Max in action on Sunday when Augsburg drew 1-1 with Hertha Berlin. Antonio Conte’s side are however not the only team interested in the 24 year old, with Manchester United, Everton and Tottenham also scouting the defender.

Max has been in great form for Augsburg this campaign, having already made eight assists in just 15 Bundesliga games, including one for the opening goal against Hertha at the weekend.

Currently though, the German is not Chelsea’s main transfer target for the position. As it was in the summer, Juventus’s Alex Sandro remains the club’s number one transfer target.

The club are not placing all their hopes on signing the Brazilian, and if their pursuit does indeed run into difficulties once again, the Blues are prepared to switch their attentions either to Max or to Telles, who they have also scouted playing for Porto in recent months.
