Chelsea target Thomas Lemar reportedly favours a move to Liverpool, according to the Independent‘s chief football reporter Miguel Delaney.

The Evening Standard say that the Frenchman is one of two players that the Blues are targeting in the January transfer window, but the winger is believed to be keen to join the Reds if he leaves his current club Monaco next month.

Lemar was said to be close to joining Arsenal in the summer, but Liverpool also made an offer for the 22 year old. Neither of the clubs’ bids were acceptable to Monaco and the France international remained at the Ligue One club.

The Independent report that the winger could cost as much as £90m, and it would require Chelsea, as well as Liverpool and Arsenal, to break their transfer records to land the midfielder.

Lemar has not been in top form this campaign, which led to suggestions that Monaco’s asking price could be reduced. The club’s vice president Vadim Vasilyev told Sky Sports a few months back that they wouldn’t sell the Frenchman in January. It could therefore be the case that any team who tries to sign the winger next month may find it hard to persuade Monaco into sanctioning a sale.
