Bayer Leverkusen have denied that any club are in talks to sign winger Leon Bailey.

Chelsea reportedly had a £22m bid turned down by the Bundesliga club earlier this month, while Arsenal are also said to be pursuing the Jamaican. Leverkusen’s General Manager Jonas Boldt has however refuted speculation that the 20 year old could leave the German side in January. In an interview with Kicker magazine, Boldt said:

“Well now the time starts again when there is some insane [transfer] talk. There is no offer for Leon. We have absolutely no thought of selling him. He has a contract until 2022 – and we are in the driver’s seat.”

Bailey continues to impress during his first full season playing in the Bundesliga. On his last outing for Leverkusen before the winter break, the winger scored twice in a 4-4 draw against Hannover. The midfielder has so far scored eight goals and contributed four assists in 16 matches this campaign.

The Jamaican was reportedly on Chelsea’s radar before he made the €13.5m move to Leverkusen in the last winter transfer window, but it seems the Blues have revived their interest in the wide man. Leverkusen are said to be unwilling to sell during the mid way point of the season when they will find it hard to sign a replacement, and Boldt’s comments confirm that the player will likely remain at the BayArena.
