El Gol Digital have really outdone themselves with this latest rumour. The Spanish website are reporting that Barcelona will engineer a deal to sign Antoine Griezmann, with the help of Chelsea.

With Atletico Madrid having complained about an illegal approach from Barca for the striker to FIFA, the Catalan club believe a direct offer to their league rivals for the French international next summer, will be rejected out of hand.

Instead they will agree a deal with Chelsea which will see Griezmann join the Blues for a season for €100m (£88.6m), and then buy the player off the London club for €140m (£124m) the following summer.

Why on Earth Chelsea would agree to such a deal is anyone’s guess. Of course, it would see a world star joining the Blues for a year, but what would the club gain? They will get a small profit of €20m (£18m) which El Gol say would be owed to the Blues, in addition to compensation for the player’s €20m a year salary. This rumour really has very little credibility behind it.
