Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross believes that Chelsea have one of the top two centre backs in the country in Kurt Zouma.

The Frenchman was allowed to leave Stamford Bridge on a season long loan back in July, and has played every game in the Premier League this season for the Potters, with the exception of the 4-0 loss to the Blues back in September. Shawcross was quoted by the Evening Standard as saying that he was surprised Stoke managed to sign the 23 year old:

“For them to let him go to us is fantastic for us, but surprising… I think him and (Toby) Alderweireld are the top two centre halves in the country at the moment. I think Kurt has done brilliantly. He’s played a lot of games previously and it’s a great test for him to come here.”

It is quite some praise considering Stoke have conceded 22 goals in 11 league games, on average conceding two goals per game this campaign. Although four of those were against Chelsea, a match Zouma did not play, while another seven came in one match against Manchester City in a 7-2 defeat.

With Zouma impressing his team mates, Ruben Loftus-Cheek performing for Crystal Palace and England, and Tammy Abraham playing well for Swansea City, it is interesting to see the strength in depth Chelsea do have, but many fans will be questioning why they were allowed to leave the club at the start of the season in the first place.
