Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has given the clearest indication yet that the Bundesliga club will look to re-sign Chelsea full back Baba Rahman in the January transfer window.

The 23 year old spent the first half of last season on loan with the German side, but returned to the Blues mid way through the campaign after sustaining a serious knee injury playing for Ghana at the African Cup of Nations.

When asked in an interview by Kicker magazine (quotes via the Augsburger Allgemeine) about the prospect of signing Rahman, Heidel said:

“I would not rule out that we will [do a] deal for Baba in the winter.”

Rahman has not played a single minute of first team football since his injury 11 months ago, but Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has recently stated that the left back is likely to return to full fitness by December.

With the transfer window following closely behind, the Ghanaian could then be sold on. The defender has made just 23 appearances for the Blues since arriving from Augsburg for £18m in 2015.
