Manchester City may look to head off Chelsea in a bid to sign Lyon defender Mouctar Diakhaby by offering Eliaquim Mangala as part of the deal, according to the Sun.
The Daily Mail reported on Monday that the Blues were keeping tabs on the 20 year old, but it seems City do have the edge in the race for the centre back. Lyon enquired about Mangala in the summer, and he could be used as a makeweight in any offer for Diakhaby.
City boss Pep Guardiola attempted to sign West Brom’s Jonny Evans to provide cover for captain Vincent Kompany back in August, but it seems that Diakhaby will be his favoured choice in January.
The French under 21 international is surprisingly not a regular for Lyon currently after breaking into the first team last season. The centre half has been on the bench for the last three league games, and has started only four times in all competitions this campaign.
