Chelsea remain firmly in the battle to sign Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to Tuttomercatoweb. The Blues will however have to face off against Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United for the playmaker.

The Italian international has a release clause in his contract but the amount depends on how many games he plays. At the start of last month Italian newspaper Leggo detailed how the buyout fee will be calculated.

By default, Pellegrini’s release clause is €30 million but that depends on the 21 year old playing 45 minutes in a minimum of 20 games. If the midfielder does not meet the minimum number of matches, €1.5 million will be taken off the €30m for every game below that amount. At the same time, every match above 20 will add €1 million to his asking price.

As things stand, Pellegrini has played eight games where he has played more than 45 minutes, making his buyout fee just €12m, but that is likely to change with the midfielder having started the last two league games for Roma.
