Real Madrid have held talks with representatives of Chelsea defender David Luiz, according to RMC Sport.

The French news outlet says that the Brazilian “is in discussions” with the La Liga champions about a possible move in the January transfer window. The centre back has fallen behind Andreas Christensen in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge in recent league games, having failed to start against Manchester United, West Brom and Liverpool.

Reports have suggested that Luiz had a falling out with manager Antonio Conte after the 3-0 defeat to Roma in the Champions League at the end of last month, but he returned to the starting line up for the club’s next European match against Qarabag last Wednesday.

The 30 year old made a surprise return to Chelsea in a £31.5m transfer from Paris Saint-Germain back in July last year, and played an integral part in the Blues’ Premier League title win. His form has however dropped significantly this season, and speculation is growing that the defender could leave Stamford Bridge just 18 months after returning to the club.
