Chelsea are interested in signing Villarreal midfielder Manu Trigueros, according to El Gol Digital.

The Blues struggled somewhat in the absence of N’Golo Kante when he was sidelined with a hamstring injury, while Danny Drinkwater has also had his injury issues since arriving from Leicester City in the summer.

With Tiemoue Bakayoko giving manager Antonio Conte an injury scare a few days ago when he pulled up in training, El Gol suggest that Chelsea may look to strengthen their midfield options further with a move for Trigueros.

The 26 year old is apparently one of the club’s first options for the January transfer window, and the midfielder is certainly an experienced campaigner after making 219 appearances since his debut for Villarreal.

Trigueros has never been called up for international duty despite his consistent performances at club level, and this season, he has made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Yellow Submarine, playing mostly in a holding midfield role.
