Chelsea are considering a January bid for Napoli centre back Nikola Maksimovic, according to Calciomercato.it.
The Serbian is not a first team regular at the San Paolo and a move for the defender would be somewhat of a surprise considering the Blues have a number of centre halves at their disposal already.
Calciomercato.it report that Napoli would be prepared to sell the 26 year old if they receive an offer close to the £18m they paid Torino for the player in the summer, following his season long loan with the Partenopei.
This campaign, Maksimovic has made just two appearances in all competitions for Maurizio Sarri’s side, coming against SPAL in the league back in September, and against Feyenoord in the Champions League a few days later.
The Serbian international is unlikely to be at the top of Blues boss Antonio Conte’s January wish list. The likes of Alex Sandro, Christian Benteke and Ross Barkley have all been tipped to move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, with the Italian keen to strengthen as part of the club’s bid to put up a strong defence of their Premier League title.
