Chelsea are keeping tabs on Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to the Sun.
The 20 year old only has 18 months left on his current deal at the Amsterdam Arena, and Premier League clubs may look to take advantage of the situation by offering relatively modest terms in the January transfer window.
Ajax are likely to offer de Jong a new contract to ward of interest from England. The Holland under 21 international has played 11 times in all competitions this season for the Eredivise side, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
If the Dutch club can’t convince the midfielder to sign a new deal however, they may consider cashing in on the starlet. The Sun report that Arsenal and Manchester City could head the queue for de Jong with both said to be considering £5m bids for the player.
A lot will depend on the player himself who has only really broken into Ajax’s first team this season. Whether he will want to move after such a short time playing top division football, it remains to be seen.
