Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, according to SportBild (via the Sun).
Chelsea are one of four Premier League clubs reportedly chasing the German international but the German publication believes talks with Barca have already taken place with the 22 year old’s agent.
Goretzka’s contract expires in the summer when he will be free to move for minimal compensation, and a host of teams have been pursuing one of the Europe’s most exciting young talents.
The Blues’ hopes of signing the midfielder were strengthened last week when Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff suggested that the player had decided on a switch to the Premier League. However, it seems Barcelona are now in pole position to sign him.
SportBild report that discussions between Goretzka’s agent and the Catalan club’s officials have gone well, and that there is even the possibility that the player could move to Spain in January, rather than making the switch at the end of his contract in the summer.
