Chelsea have been linked with a move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Marco Asensio in recent days.

Reports from Spain suggest the 21 year old is aware of the interest in him from the Blues, and he is unhappy that he is not currently an integral member of Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven.

Asensio started and played the full 90 minutes in the 6-0 win over APOEL Nicosia last night but had been a substitute in the last two league games, and this had prompted a report in Don Balon suggesting he may use Chelsea’s interest in him to get more game time.

The midfielder is being tipped as the next superstar of Spanish football, and he signed a new six year contract with Real only back in September. Still, if he is unhappy at the Bernabeu, Chelsea would be one of the few clubs who could afford to sign the player.

They have good relations with the Champions League winners after signing Alvaro Morata in the summer, but whether Asensio is a realistic target seems debatable at the moment. Here is some of the Twitter reaction to the story:
