Marotta deals Chelsea transfer setback after saying target ‘will’ sign contract

Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed they are close to extending left back Alex Sandro’s contract to remain at the Serie A champions.

Chelsea were reported to be lining up another bid for the Brazilian in the January transfer window, but speaking to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Marotta confirmed that a deal is in the works for the 26 year old. When asked about potential player contract renewals, he said:

“Paulo [Dybala] himself has asked for it [a new deal], we will be renewing soon and we will also extend the contract of Alex Sandro.”

Sandro is believed to be in line to almost double his wages from £2.5m (€2.8m) a season to £4.5m (€5m) a season, and it seems that by the time the next transfer window comes around, the full back will have signed a new deal until 2022.

If the contract is signed, it would come as a setback to Blues manager Antonio Conte’s transfer plans. Sandro has been the club’s top target for a number of months but Juve have stuck to their guns and refused to sell.
