Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is considering replacing left back Jordi Alba with Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, according to Don Balon.
The Spanish publication reports that the Barca boss is unhappy with Alba’s performances since the start of the season, and he has asked the Catalan club’s board to seek out potential new recruits.
The shortlist of candidates that has been drawn up reportedly includes Chelsea target Alex Sandro, Valencia’s Jose Luis Gaya, Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro, with Barca B player Marc Cucurella also being considered
Top of the list however, is believed to be Alonso who Valverde rates very highly, although Don Balon do caveat this by saying such a move remains unlikely as Chelsea do not want to sell the wing back.
The irony is that Alonso still can’t get in the squad for his national team with head coach Julen Lopetegui selecting both Alba and Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal ahead of him at the moment.
