Chelsea wing back Marcos Alonso is a target for Barcelona, according to Spanish publication Don Balon.
Barca boss Ernesto Valverde is said to be lining up the 26 year old as a replacement for Jordi Alba, who has not started the season in the best of form for the Catalan club.
Alonso himself revealed last week that he wants to return Spain at some point during his career to play in La Liga:
“I’m very happy at Chelsea but I would like to return to Spain one day. Before I retire I’d like to play in La Liga. I haven’t played much there.”
The defender started out life in Real Madrid’s youth system but he only played one senior match in his homeland. He moved to Bolton Wanderers in 2010, before he had a spell at Fiorentina, as well as a season loan at Sunderland.
There was some surprise among fans when he was signed for almost £21m in August 2016, but he slotted in perfectly when manager Antonio Conte switched to a back three last campaign.
Here is some of the Twitter reaction to the story linking Alonso with a switch to Barca:
Alonso who is just 1 year younger does not sound like a reasonable long term replacement plan.
