Nigeria are trying to persuade Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham to switch his allegiances from England, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19 year old, who is currently on loan at Swansea City, has a Nigerian father, but he was born in London and has played for England at youth level for the under 18s, under 19s and under 21s.

He is still eligible to play for Nigeria until he makes an appearance for England’s senior side in a competitive match. The African nation believe they have a trump card in Amaju Pinnick, the president of the country’s football federation who just so happened to grow up with Abraham’s father in Nigeria.

Abraham has started the season in impressive form for Swansea, having scored twice in his four appearances for the Welsh club so far. He will be looking to build on his hugely impressive campaign in the Championship with Bristol City last season, where he scored 26 in all competitions.
