Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois’s former goalkeeping coach has revealed that the Belgian international is keen on returning to Spain before the end of his career.

The keeper’s coach at Racing Genk, Guy Martens, told TVL Sportcafe (via soccernews.nl) that his former pupil still looks back fondly at his experience on loan at Atletico Madrid, but he believes the 25 year old is currently happy at Stamford Bridge:

“If Thibaut got the chance, he would like to return to Spain. He was very happy at Atlético Madrid and he did very well, but he also has a great deal with Chelsea.”

Martens also mentioned that he was in line to become Chelsea goalkeeping coach to work with Courtois once again, but the Blues opted to hire someone else instead.

The Chelsea goalkeeper was at Genk from the age of seven before he left for the Blues in 2011 for a reported €9m. He then spent three consecutive seasons on loan at Atletico, making over 100 appearances for the La Liga club, before returning to the Blues in 2014 to become the club’s number one goalkeeper in place of Petr Cech.
