Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel refused to comment when asked in a German television interview whether he had been contacted by Chelsea about becoming the club’s next manager.

Speaking to Sky Germany (quotes via Hamburger Morgenpost), Tuchel said he we would rather not comment on what had happened:

“I would allow myself to not answer.”

Sport Bild reported last month that Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia was looking to replace current boss Antonio Conte. As Roman Abramovich’s main advisor on the board, Granovskaia is seen as a key influencer at the club, and she was reportedly unhappy at Conte’s handling of the situation surrounding Diego Costa.

The Russian director reportedly was seeking alternative options with German manager Tuchel and former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique also in the frame.

With consecutive victories coming against Tottenham and Everton, Antonio Conte’s position looks far more secure at the club, but the difficult summer transfer window will no doubt have done nothing to ease tensions between the Italian and the Chelsea hierarchy.
