Marcos Alonso’s father has told Tuttomercatoweb that the wing back is “happy” to stay at Chelsea, and is looking forward to his first ever match in the Champions League tonight against Azeri side Qarabag.

The Blues were pursuing Juventus’s Alex Sandro in the summer, and he would likely have replaced Alonso as the club’s first choice left wing back if he had signed, but Marcos Alonso Pena said his son is only focused on making his mark in Europe for Chelsea:

“Marcos at Chelsea is happy. He is playing really well and he cannot wait to get onto the pitch for the first match in the Champions League of his career.”

Alonso’s match winning double against Spurs kick started the club’s season after the opening day loss against Burnley. Three wins in a row will no doubt see Antonio Conte’s side heading into the first match of the Champions League group stage tonight brimming with confidence.

The Chelsea boss has stated he will look to rotate the squad as he seeks to keep players fresh for both domestic and European matches this season.
