Chelsea are among a trio of Premier League clubs lining up a January bid for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller, according to Calciomercato.com.

Arsenal and Liverpool are also believed to be in the race for the German international, who has become unsettled at the Allianz Arena after the arrival of James Rodriguez at the club from Real Madrid. His uneasy relationship with manager Carlo Ancelotti has also contributed to rumours linking him with a move away from the Bundesliga club.

The Blues have agreed to sell Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid for £53million in January, but the Spaniard’s departure, along with Loic Remy’s free transfer move to Las Palmas last month, means the club will have just two recognised strikers in the squad.

Although he would certainly not be a like for like replacement for Costa (he plays either as an inside right forward or as a support striker), he would no doubt improve manager Antonio Conte’s attacking options. Whether he is actually available though, it remains to be seen. He is still a firm fixture in the first team at Bayern, and played the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over Schalke on Tuesday.
