Chelsea will likely return with a January bid for Everton’s Ross Barkley, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website reports that the 23 year old is still high on the list of transfer priorities for manager Antonio Conte despite the Blues’ failure to sign the midfielder last month.

The England international pulled out of a move to Chelsea on deadline day after stating that he wanted to consider his options further in January. At the time, this was interpreted as a snub to the Blues with Barkley said to prefer a switch instead to Spurs to work under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham may however consider pulling out of a £30m January deal for Barkley, according to ESPN journalist Dan Kilpatrick. Attacking midfielder Moussa Sissoko has been given another chance to prove himself under Pochettino with the French international impressing in central midfield against West Ham last weekend.

If the the 28 year old’s form continues to improve, Chelsea may have a free run to sign Barkley when the transfer window reopens.
