Chelsea have officially cancelled Loic Remy’s contract in order for the striker to join Las Palmas on a free transfer, according to the Sun.

It means that even if the Frenchman can’t agree terms with the Canary Islanders before the close of the Spanish transfer window tonight, he can still move to another club as he is effectively a free agent.

Despite being used sparingly during his first two years with the Blues, his 12 goals from 47 appearances was not a bad return considering he was mostly selected as a substitute. The arrival of Antonio Conte as manager last summer though spelled the end of his first team chances.

After a failed loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, he failed to make a single matchday squad under the Italian this campaign. His departure means that Chelsea will have to make do with just two out and out strikers until January. After missing out on Fernando Llorente to Tottenham, it means Conte has only Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi to choose from for the centre forward role.

Diego Costa could make his move to Atletico Madrid today but even if he stays, it’s unlikely Conte will select him to play after the Spaniard’s refusal to return to the club to train.
