Chelsea striker Diego Costa is finally closing in on move to Atletico Madrid with a €60million (£53m) fee being agreed with the Blues for the 28 year old, according to AS.
The Spanish publication report that a medical is set to take place today before the agreement is publicly announced in the “next few days,” most likely at the weekend.
The move will be officially finalised in January, but he will not be returning to Chelsea to train, with the Blues reportedly allowing him to join up with his new Atletico team mates straight away, as he looks to improve his fitness.
It will put to an end a lengthy transfer saga which stretches back three months to when Chelsea boss Antonio Conte told Costa he was no longer in the club’s first team plans.
The Spanish international has not played for over 100 days since Spain’s World Cup qualifier against Macedonia in June, and he has spent the majority of his time back in his native Brazil.
