Chelsea attacking midfielder Eden Hazard is within “weeks” of signing a new contract, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Belgian international currently has a contract until 2020 but the Italian website say that the new deal will extend his stay at Stamford Bridge by just one year until 2021. The 26 year old will likely be given a significant pay rise to keep him with the Blues until he turns 30.

During the last international break, Hazard was not overly optimistic that the two sides would come to an agreement any time soon. When asked about his contract situation, he said:

“At the moment there’s nothing. I’m waiting.”

It seems that since that interview, there has been movement in the discussions, and some progress has been made. The Sun believe a new deal could put Hazard on as much as £300,000 a week, or £15.6m a year, but there hasn’t been any other sources that have corroborated these figures, with Tuttomercatoweb not mentioning the salary in their report.
