Barca intervention spells trouble for Chelsea’s attempts to sign German star

Chelsea are among four Premier League teams who will look to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka on a free transfer next summer, according to SportBild.

The Blues have been joined by Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United in the chase for the German international, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

SportBild are reporting however that a move to England is still unlikely despite the interest from the Premier League as the 22 year old has set his sights firmly on moving to either Bayern Munich or Barcelona.

Bundesliga champions Bayern had reportedly already agreed to sign Goretzka once his contract expires, but that was before Barca had entered the race for the player.

The Catalan club are said to be keen to freshen their midfield with younger faces with Andres Iniesta, now 33, entering the latter stages of his career, and they are believed to be keen on a move for the German.
