Chelsea striker Diego Costa looks all set to secure his return to Atletico Madrid in the next few days. The Blues confirmed yesterday that they had agreed a fee (believed to be in the region of £53m) with the La Liga side to sell the 28 year old.
The forward has been pictured taking a flight to Spain from his native Brazil, and will undergo a medical in Madrid before his move to the Spanish capital is finalised.
It is believed that everything will be done and dusted by the weekend, and although the transfer can’t officially happen until January, when Atletico’s transfer ban is lifted, Costa is expected to join up with his Atletico team mates and train to build up his fitness.
The striker has denied that he holds any bitterness about how things ended at Chelsea, and when asked whether he had a message for the Blues fans, he said:
“Everybody knows how much I love the fans.”
Some on Twitter were very surprised that Chelsea managed to get the transfer fee they got for the Spaniard, especially considering that the player only wanted to make the switch to Atletico and no other club:
Do you have any unwanted items that you can shift for some cash? Then call Chelsea now!…Diego Costa – £53m to Atletico Madrid
