Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola was on the Sky Sports show ‘The Debate’ last night when the former forward was asked for his opinion on the Blues selling Diego Costa and signing Alvaro Morata.

Zola says he believes that the club is bigger than one player, and for that reason Costa had to go this summer, but he remains unconvinced about Alvaro Morata despite the Spaniard hitting the ground running in a Chelsea shirt:

“I have no doubt that it was right for him to go. He probably has a problem, the team is not made by one player, and I think it’s better for him to go.”

“On the temporal level Morata is not on the same level as Costa. Technically he is a great player, he obviously has a lot of qualities, good in the air, good feet. He has been with Juventus, Real Madrid, big teams, but didn’t play regularly, and I want to find out why. And this year I think I’m going to get the answers.”

Morata scored his seventh goal in eight appearances for Chelsea last night, scoring the equaliser against Atletico Madrid, with Costa in the stands watching his former side face his new team.

The departure of fan favourite Costa, and the arrival of Morata has led to some differences of opinion among Blues supporters in recent weeks, and Zola’s comments on both players caused some very different reactions on Twitter.

Here are some of the comments from Chelsea fans about Costa:
