Atletico Madrid finally completed the signing of Diego Costa from Chelsea yesterday. The deal will go through on New Year’s Day when the January transfer window opens.
Since signing from Atletico for £32million in 2014, the Spanish international has scored 58 goals in 120 appearances for the Blues. He will leave having won the Premier League title twice in three seasons, as well as the the League Cup.
The final transfer fee is reportedly in a region of €65m, but the transfer saga has stretched back over three months, ever since the controversial text sent by Chelsea manager Antonio Conte to the 28 year old that said he no longer featured in the club’s first team plans.
Supporters have some mixed feelings about Costa’s departure with some believing it was a mistake to let the striker leave, while others think they have sold the player at the right time.
