Monaco have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in pursuing Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto, according to Don Balon (via 101GreatGoals).

The Spanish publication reports that the Ligue One champions are hoping to take advantage after the arrival of new manager Ernesto Valverde, with Roberto still uncertain over how much of a role in the first team he will have next season.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo however report that Barca have rejected a €40m bid from Manchester United for the 25 year old and have no intention of selling the midfielder this summer.

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo enquired about Roberto’s future last summer, but his overtures were rebuffed at the time by the La Liga side.

With the Blues short of numbers in central midfield after the departures of Nemanja Matic and Nathaniel Chalobah this summer, the club have been tipped to make another move for the Spanish international. Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater is however the likelier candidate to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
